Week 1 Email: I have a new Mom

Subject: I have a new mom
Oi todos!It's
just little old me, Kaitlyn. Well now it's Sister Garcia ;) I'm
officially a missionary, which is so crazy to think about! During the
online MTC my Pdays are Saturdays so you can expect an update from me
every Saturday for the next 6 weeks. The CTM has been amazing so far! :)
If I'm being honest I was super nervous to start and I didn't really
know what to expect from it, but I'm so glad I've been able to do my
training at home. My schedule that I was sent was all in Brazil time and
it said that most of my classes were to start at 8:30am. I don't know
if any of you know this, but Brazil is 4 hours ahead of Utah, you can do
that math, it was supposed to be early! Luckily it's been changed and
now my classes don't start until 9:30am Utah time. They like to keep us
busy that's for sure! I already have to memorize and learn certain
phrases and scriptures. We also were told that on Tuesday we're going to
teach someone in Portuges so that's crazy but exciting! I have 2
classes everyday that are around 2-3 hours long. The professors are
super nice and give us a few breaks too which is nice. I never knew that
my butt could be sore from just sitting haha! On my first day I met my
amazing distrito! Meu companheria is the amazing Sister Williams from
Nephi UT so that's pretty rad. She's so sweet and has the kindest things
to say. :) On our first day while we were waiting for our Zoom class to
start, Elder Showalter shoved 16 mini oreos into his mouth, it was a
great way to kick off the MTC and honestly get to know each other a
little better too haha! From the very beginning we were thrown into the
language too! I think I prefer it that way, but it definitely is a LOT
of information. I've only been in the CTM for 3 days and I can already
say a (simple but correct) prayer! It's crazy to think that I didn't
know anything beyond my DuoLingo level of Portuges, and now I can say a
prayer. Crazy! I'm super grata para Brother Paes. We had a little
workshop class where we focused on the gift of tongues (dom de linguas)
and how all languages are hard to learn but that they are all beautiful.
That's when he told me that I have a new mom, and her name is Portuges.
My real mom (English) is great and all, but I've been adopted and I
need to build that relationship with Portugues:) All of my professors
are awesome and super funny, they really like to make jokes with us and
make things fun. Something else I learned this week is that 'Garcia' is a
very common name in Brazil apparently so when we were on a zoom call
with all the missionarios in the CTM, I was put into a Portuges speaking
breakout room. I had NO idea what anyone was saying because it was my
first day! So I quickly learned that I need to put 'ING' by name on zoom
haha! I'm really loving every minute of the CTM and I can't wait to see
what this next week brings! Something a little spiritual to end this
first weeks email of course! It wouldn't be a missionaria email without
one! ;) I was reading Alma chapter 29 and I just loved every verse
honestly! It's Alma crying unto the Lord for repentance and the Lord
grants teachers (or missionaries!) to teach to all nations. It was
something that I read on Wednesday night after my first day of classes.
It just really stuck with me that anyone can be a missionario and that
Deus with help spread His gospel. Definitely go read that chapter if you
have a free moment:) I hope you guys all had a great week! Feel free to
