Phone Call Home: Monday, February 21, 2022


Sister Garcia was so chatty today! She was going all over the place with how her week went and all the STL things and exchanges and and and. :) I think she is truly finding her spot in this mission of hers and this new assignment. I do love that as she was chatting and updating me on all the things that she could not stop grinning. She just smiles through all of it. 

Some funny things I want to be sure that get accounted for from this weeks call are:
- Sister Garcia says that she talks in her sleep in Brazil. This isn't new, she has always talked in her sleep from the time that she was little. What is new is that when she talks she talks in Portuguese!!!! Funny! Sister Scioli told her that she does!
- One day this last week they were in an Uber getting a ride and there was a gentleman on the road with a sign. You know, like a cardboard box one. Anyways, on it he had written "Looking for a girlfriend who is blonde". Can you even imagine? She said she was laughing pretty hard and even the Uber driver was too and he wanted to be sure the missionaries saw it because it was so funny.
- Sister Garcia is looking forward to a lot of in person lessons this next week. When she says a lot she means like 9 people every single day! Talk about the work of the Lord going out and getting to ears of others!
- Sister Garcia and I talked a lot about Elder Garcia today as well. She is worried about him and when she tries to reach out to him just to even talk and say hello he is pretty rough on the edges. She tried to send an email and even some messages of encouragement and also some words of advice and to let him know that she loves him. She says that he hasn't even acknowledged them and that is really hard for her. I shared a little of what is going on from my side and we both agreed that all we can do is keep him in our prayers and hope that the Lord will squeeze him in extra tight in an embrace.

Sister Garcia is super torn at the moment of wanting to be home but also wanting to be in Brazil. She loves it there and she loves her companion, Sister Scioli. She misses things here at home (which by the way, I am SO glad. :) ) but as a missionary life is pretty grand for her. I cannot even begin to imagine what day to day feelings must be like for her. Especially as she comes to the time that the close of her mission is staring at her right in the face. I will add some serious prayers of peace for her at this time as she experiences all the feelings of high and low in these days ahead.

One thing Sister Garcia mentioned this week was that she saw 2 hummingbirds! Oh this brought the biggest smile to my face. She said "Mom, when I see a ladybug I think of Grams. When I see hummingbirds, I totally think of you." I started bawling! I love this so much. So so much. I love that little moments like a tiny flitting about hummingbird will remind her of me and of home even so many miles away. <3 

I love you Sister Garcia and am thrilled that each day served is one more closer to home. I am so proud of you as you take on a babysitting role with these Sisters you are in charge of. I am grateful for your example and for your strength in hard times. Thanks for showing that no matter what you face, as long as you keep the Lord by your side, all things are possible. I love you to the moon and back.

Good morning Brothers and Sisters. I am excited to be here with you this morning. Not because I up here speaking but because we are here to listen to Kaitlyn report on her mission which means she is actually home! Thank you all for being here and for the support you have shown her throughout her time away. I also want to say hello to Elder Garcia who is hopefully able to have good enough wi-fi to join us today in Africa.  When I posed the question to Kaitlyn who she wanted to have speak with her I knew deep down she wanted Brooklyn but I also knew that Brooklyn had told both missionaries that if either of them asked her to talk she would simply not come to church that day at all and she was fine to miss their homecomings. Week 1 Email: I have a new Mom

Well now it's Sister Garcia ;) I'm officially a missionary, which is so crazy to think about! During the online MTC my Pdays are Saturdays so you can expect an update from me every Saturday for the next 6 weeks. The CTM has been amazing so far! :) If I'm being honest I was super nervous to start and I didn't really know what to expect from it, but I'm so glad I've been able to do my training at home. My schedule that I was sent was all in Brazil time and it said that most of my classes were to start at 8:30am. I don't know if any of you know this, but Brazil is 4 hours ahead of Utah, you can do that math, it was supposed to be early! Luckily it's been changed and now my classes don't start until 9:30am Utah time. They like to keep us busy that's for sure! I already have to memorize and learn cer...
