Monday Phone Call: March 14, 2022

Mom and Tyler in Cabo for a birthday trip getting to catch up with Sister Garcia!

Well...today was a tricky phone call day only because we were in Mexico for our birthday trip but we made it work! And I am so glad that we did.  :)

Sister Garcia is so happy. Seriously..so happy. She is working through being an STL and learning that with this she gets to do training not just with the Sisters but occasionally President Nordfelt will call on them to do some training too. Sister Garcia not only had a training to do but apparently everyone loves her handwriting and so she was commissioned (for free) to do some handouts with a decorated quote on it. This does not surprise me one bit. :) She has always had great handwriting and her doodling has always added to that as well.

We didn't have a super ton of time but one thing that Sister Garcia shared this week has me all sorts of 'what?!'...So...Sister Garcia and Sister Scioli were doing their missionary thing and making calls into the later part of the night. Like 9:30 almost 10pm later part of the night. Anyways, they were going to grab a quick something to eat and then get ready for bed. They made some breakfast sandwich type things and then literally dropped exhausted into bed. Sister Garcia said that at some point in the middle of the night (and she said it was middle because it was pitch black outside!) she woke up and Sister Scioli was standing right above her face. Sister Garcia came to enough to discover that Sister Scioli said she could smell gas and she was worried. The two girls headed into the kitchen and discovered that the burner was 'on' but not really to their stove top. Sister Garcia says she KNOWS she turned her burner off and that was the one that was 'on'. She says it is similar to the one here at home so she knows how to do the turn on turn off thing but for some reason this one wasn't. They both did a double check and turned everything to the off position and headed back to bed.

Sunday morning comes and they are getting ready when Sister Garcia checks the stove top again. The burner that she used was fine but now the burner that Sister Scioli used was warm, well pretty hot, to the touch and it hadn't even been used since the night before?! What??? Anyways, they turned it on and then off to make sure it was off off and then headed to church. They shared this with a couple of their sweet members who of course were hilarious and told them they could not go back to that apartment because it must be haunted.

I laughed at the haunted thing but then Sister Garcia said that the apartment she is in hasn't had anyone living it in for a good amount of time. Like a good amount I guess. And there have been rumors that it is haunted and they had talked about having it rededicated and all but then they didn't and this and that and all the in between. My mind was spinning to say the least! A haunted mission apartment in Brazil and not Salem?! :) When the girls got home from church and their visits they checked the stove top and all is well. Which is good because now they can focus on getting a fridge fixed so that they can have cold again! These missionaries are definitely working through some stuff right now. Sister Garcia misses cold water pretty bad! Fingers crossed a fridge repair or a new fridge delivery will take place for them.

Sister Garcia was so fun to talk with today and each week I swear her smile brightens more than it was the week before. She is loving and thriving as a missionary. Her growth over these last months has been so fun to watch. I am so grateful for the chance to see her each Monday and to hear of her adventures, even if they are crazy. :)

I love you for forever,
Mom
